Need a "Funny"?

Today is one of those days I needed some "funnies"....

Don't have time to post much but the url's---but if you are in need of some funnies too, check these out. Note, before you play these in front of your kids, they do have 2 words that you may not want them repeating. But, I promise that they are overall G-rated. The first 4 are kid-related. The last one is a clip from Ellen.

Selfishly, this really just gives me a go-to spot for quick access to these video clips. : )

Mama, I'm going to need a list....

Ok---so Mama, do you remember all those times when I was being slightly : ) stubborn, not into listening, defiant, [insert whatever other words you want to use here], and you--in silent revenge--prayed to God to give me a child that dished out to me one-hundred-fold what I was doing to you at the time? Well, He listened.

Reese can get on my last nerve these days. (And, Reese, when you are old enough to read this, I mean that in the most loving, motherly way that I possibly can.) She doesn't listen; when she obeys, it is at turtle-speed; and when she doesn't want to obey, she does whatever the heck she wants to with this little "you can't get mad at this face, can you?" smile on her face. Or, finally, my personal favorite, the "I'll do what you are asking me to, Mommy, but only after I do about a thousand other things that I'd rather do first----I mean, Mommy, what's the hurry anyway? I have dolls to dress, a puppy dog to take care of, etc" attitude. And, then, when I get on to her or lose it, she has the most uncanny way of crying or saying something that makes me feel 2 inches tall for getting upset.
In the words that Reese loves to tell John---Reese, "you're killin' me".

So, Mama, I'm going to need a list of all the prayers that are related to me and my kids so that I can pre-clear them before you send them on up to God. You obviously have a fast track to Heaven with your prayers!

PS--Miss Paula, I think I'll need your list too, because I suspect you did the whole silent-revenge-prayer thing plenty on my behalf too in between your "sermons" to us! : )
PS #2--To all of you who keenly noticed that this post is directly after the "Delight" post---ironic, I realize. But, as you know, with kids---one moment is delight and the other is sheer frustration. Just have to roll with it.

Delight

I've heard Beth Moore say that delight is like love doing cartwheels. I must admit that I don't know if I would have quite understood what that meant until I had kids. Don't misunderstand me....I have many people that have been in my life since before my kids that I dearly love...my parents, my sister, my husband, etc. But, it was my kids that truly taught me what delight is. And, the neat thing about it is, that---now that I know what that means---I have the capacity to love my husband, my family, my God in that delight-kind of way. Its like God used my kids to stretch my heart.

I mention this now because tonight was a night where God allowed me to once again feel delight in my children. Its been a long day at work. I am exhausted. It was 9pm, I had not eaten dinner b/c I had worked late and I had just gotten Reese in her bed (not asleep, mind you, but at least in her bed). I was doing what has become my nightly ritual of "dancing" with John in his room while singing Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and he just looked up at me, smiled his cute Mr Congeniality smile and just purred, closed his eyes, and laid his head on my chest still smiling. DELIGHT. Love doing a back-handspring.

Then, when I tore myself away from my sweet John and laid him down, I left his room. I then heard the cutest little 3-year old voice singing Twinkle Twinkle in her bed. DELIGHT. Love doing a Scott Hamilton-style back flip.

I wonder if my children will ever fully realize the gift they are to me. Maybe once they have kids of their own. : )

Would you turn down this face?

Well, Monday was Reese's birthday. I took cupcakes to her MDO class----and we've been enjoying the extras at home ever since. I worked late last night and Martha (my mother-in-law) kept her. She had a little of a cupcake after dinner----well, really, she just licked some of the icing off 1 cupcake. I finally got her to bed about 9pm and went to go get some household stuff done. I coming up the stairs from the basement when I saw this "deer in headlights" look from my little girl who was supposed to be sound asleep in her bed. She had icing from the rest of her cupcake (which I hadn't cleaned up yet from the kitchen table) all over her mouth and I could tell that she did not expect to see me. Imagine milk mustache, but with icing. Knowing that she was cold-busted, she gave me her best "I'm such a good, sweet little girl" look and said, "Mommy, I came in here to give you one last kiss goodnight." Even knowing that was a bold-faced lie---I couldn't be mad. #1--Who could turn down a kiss from this little girl and #2--Let's face it, she comes by her love of pure sugar honestly. I have only myself to blame. So, I gave her another kiss and sent her back to bed. About 15 minutes later, I saw her out of the corner of my eye standing at the kitchen door. When I acknowledged her presence, she came right up to me, looked me in the eyes and said "Mommy, can I eat the rest of my cupcake? I wuv you." Again, couldn't deny her. So, the picture above is my sweet little manipulator getting what she wanted---a cupcake at 10pm.

In the immortal words of Jerry Bratschi...."If you can't spoil your kids, who can you spoil?"

Happy Birthday, Reese!

MG--this is for you!!

Ok--so, I'm starting this blog for my sister. She emailed me a week or 2 ago begging me to start a blog so that she could keep up with the kids better. I hope she knows how scary this is for me---to put thoughts out there for people to see?!?!? I know she wanted it really to see my kids---her niece and nephew. But, let's face it, as a perfectionist, I can't have a blog without at least trying to use it for its intended purpose---to tell stories, to share thoughts, etc. So, we'll see how that goes for me. Also, since Lee will be out of town alot, I thought he would like reading this...seeing pics of the kids and hearing stories about what they did that day. That way, he doesn't have to pretend to listen to me on the phone at night. : ).
I love the pics above b/c it shows Reese in one of my favorites of her states....really concentrating and learning about something.....and, my sweet Mr. Congeniality, John...just smiling and being the joy of my life.

So, for the first story of the blog....

Mimi was taking Reese and John to the Summit today. They were going to take some pennies to throw in the fountain to make wishes on. (Though I doubt Reese knows what that means yet.) Mimi told her that she might need to go to the bank to get more Pennies.

Reese: "Mimi, how do you get more pennies at the bank?"

Mimi: "Well, you give them your money and they give you pennies."

Reese: "No, no Mimi, you have to be polite."

Mimi: "Yes, Reese, you are right."

Reese: "You have to say 'Please give me some pennies' and then shake your bootie alot. THEN, they will give you more pennies."

Not sure what that says about my 3 year old---I think she is a little more street-smart about the way the world works for girls than I would like her to be at this age.
